Reaper: how to sync Soundbrenner Pulse & Core to DAWs

This article is specifically about how to pair our mobile app (and Soundbrenner wearables) to  Reaper. You can accomplish this via a USB cable.

What works: Controlling the tempo of your Soundbrenner app and wearables via Reaper.

What doesn’t work: Subdivision information cannot be sent due to a limitation of MIDI clock. Controlling Reaper’s tempo using the Soundbrenner app and wearables does not always work properly.

Using Reaper to control your Soundbrenner wearable:

Step 1:

Make sure your Soundbrenner app is set up to receive external MIDI. Launch Reaper and open Preferences -> Audio -> MIDI Devices.

Step 2:

Launch Reaper and open Preferences -> Audio -> MIDI Devices.

Your Soundbrenner wearable will appear in Reaper’s MIDI hardware settings as “MIDI function”.

Step 3:

By default, your Soundbrenner wearable will be disabled, so you will need to enable it manually.

To do this, right click on MIDI function in the output section and click “Enable output” :

You will also need to enable “Send clock to output”. This will allow Reaper to share its BPM settings with your Soundbrenner device via MIDI clock.

Pressing play in Reaper will now trigger the Soundbrenner app and connected wearable. To change the tempo, find the BPM section on the right hand side.

You can also tap tempo in Reaper by clicking 3 or more times on the BPM icon.

  Tip

If you would like to rename your device in Reaper, right click on both the Input and Output instances of MIDI function and click Configure. You can then set an alias name for your Soundbrenner wearable.

Using the Soundbrenner app/wearable to control Reaper’s tempo:

Step 1:

Make sure your Soundbrenner app is set up to send MIDI.

Open MIDI settings in Reaper. Go to the MIDI inputs section and click “Enable input”. Again, your Soundbrenner wearable will be listed as “MIDI function”.

Now, changing the tempo in the app or on your connected wearable will also change the BPM in Reaper.

You now have all the information you need to get your Soundbrenner wearable set up with Reaper. If you have any questions, please contact support@soundbrenner.com.
